PAS CHAIR & CHAIR-ELECT ROLE DESCRIPTIONS

Program Committee Chair-elect Responsibilities
Term: 2 Years, July 1 – June 30

      • Works closely with Chair to observe and learn Chair duties and the PAS program planning procedures and processes, including Workshop selection (Year 1)
      • Works with Chair and PAS Staff to assess and implement improvements to the PAS program planning process: proposal and abstract submission, review, and selection, data analytics and program evaluation (Year 2)
      • Works closely with Workshop Coordinator to assess and implement improvements to the workshop review and selection process (Year 2)
      • Reviews PAS Club, Special Interest Group, and Industry Sponsored Symposia program submissions; works closely with PAS Staff, CME provider and Chair; advises organizers on coordination of PAS program with policy compliance and CME requirements (Year 2)
      • Participates in PAS Board of Director meetings as observer in preparation for ex officio service (Year 2)
      • The Chair-elect and Workshop Coordinator report directly to the Chair; the Chair provides feedback coaching as needed
      • Prerequisites for selection:

      o Prior service on the PAS Program Committee, or similar program committee, preferred
      o Member in good standing status with a PAS partner or alliance organization
      o Recognized leader in academic pediatrics
      o Strong facilitator of consensus and decision-making

  • Program Committee Chair Responsibilities
    Term: 2 Years, July 1 – June 30

      • Overall direction of PAS program process to ensure that program aligns with the PAS vision: To be the premier North American scholarly child health meeting
      • Secures PAS Opening General Session keynote speaker
      • Meets monthly with PAS Staff; leads Committee meetings
      • With support from designated program committee members and PAS Staff, is responsible for continued evaluation of the PAS program planning, evaluation process and tools
      • With support from PAS Staff, prepares letters of commendation recognizing the service to and impact of Program Committee members to academic pediatrics
      • Attends PAS Board of Directors meetings as an ex officio non-voting member
      • With support from PAS Staff, prepares for the PAS Board an annual assessment of the impact and quality of the PAS program; recommends adjustments, innovations, PAS Labs, etc.
      • With support from designated program committee members and PAS Staff, reviews questionable program requests or submissions and works with proposer to resolve issues and ensure PAS and CME policy compliance
      • With support from designated program committee members and PAS Staff, directs PAS response to any allegations of ethical violations in accordance with PAS policies and procedures
      • Reports directly to and receives performance feedback from the PAS Board of Directors
  • Chair and Chair-elect Support & Recognition
      • Complimentary PAS Meeting registration.
      • PAS-paid hotel and travel support to attend the PAS Meeting and in-person Program Committee meetings.
      • The PAS Board of Directors President annually prepares a letter of commendation and thanks to recognize the impact of the Chair’s service to and impact on academic pediatrics.
