PAS SUSTAINABILITY

At PAS, we recognize the critical role sustainability plays in shaping a healthier, more equitable future. Our commitment extends beyond environmental responsibility to encompass social and economic well-being, ensuring a lasting impact for generations to come. Guided by sustainable practices, we strive to reduce our ecological footprint, promote inclusivity, and support secure livelihoods. Through thoughtful initiatives and responsible operations, we are dedicated to fostering a greener, more resilient world, one step at a time.

SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES

Carbon Offset

PAS measures and shares the estimated carbon footprint of its events, actively taking steps to reduce and offset emissions. By participating in carbon offset programs, PAS ensures that meetings at the Convention Center can achieve complete carbon neutrality.

Community Outreach

Collaborations with environmentally focused organizations and initiatives further advance our sustainability goals. Our community outreach program is committed to sustainability and environmental restoration, and this year, we are excited to introduce the Genki Mudballs Project. These beneficial mudballs, made from a mixture of clay, effective microorganisms (EM), and other natural ingredients, help break down pollutants and improve water quality in rivers, lakes, and ponds. By participating in this initiative, we aim to engage the community in hands-on environmental stewardship, fostering awareness of sustainable practices while actively contributing to cleaner waterways

Dining

Responsible dining practices play a key role in supporting ecologically sound, fair, and humane food systems. We are committed to sourcing environmentally and socially preferable food and beverages, including Certified Organic, Fair Trade Certified, and Certified Humane products, as well as locally sourced options for our events. We ensure that vegan and vegetarian choices are available at all PAS events. Additionally, we work to minimize food waste through source reduction, donation, and composting, reinforcing our dedication to sustainability.

Energy

Implementing energy conservation measures and transitioning to renewable energy sources can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save costs, and support the growth of cleaner energy markets. To uphold this commitment, we prioritize selecting office spaces, conference centers, and venues that meet minimum energy efficiency standards, such as ENERGY STAR or LEED certification, and/or that source clean and renewable energy, whether through green power purchasing or onsite renewables. Additionally, we work to minimize energy consumption in our office space and encourage employees to adopt energy-efficient practices in their home offices. These efforts are key to achieving our sustainability goals and fostering a more energy-conscious future.

Transportation

To reduce our impact, we support telecommuting to minimize employee commuting emissions. For conferences, staff retreats, and board meetings, we prioritize venue selection that allows for sustainable travel options and encourage attendees to choose eco-friendly transportation methods and offset air travel when possible. Through these efforts, we strive to lower our carbon footprint while promoting healthier, more sustainable mobility solutions.

Venues

Buildings can be designed, constructed, and maintained to promote a safe and healthy indoor environment for occupants while minimizing their impact on the surrounding environment. Whenever possible, we are committed to prioritizing conference centers, and venues that are LEED certified, meet similar green building standards, or serve as local examples of sustainability. This commitment ensures that our operations align with our broader environmental goals and contribute to a more sustainable future.

Waste Reduction

We understand the environmental and social benefits of minimizing waste and diverting materials from landfills and incinerators. We are dedicated to reducing our impact by limiting printing through paperless workflows, implementing source-reduction strategies, and working toward a zero-waste goal for our offices, and events. As part of these efforts, PAS has eliminated attendee bags, swag items, and hotel door drops to minimize unnecessary waste.

We recognize the vital importance of protecting groundwater and public water supplies. To support sustainable water management, we prioritize selecting office spaces, conference centers, and venues that incorporate water-efficient fixtures, recycling and reuse systems, and other green infrastructure. Additionally, we promote the use of reusable beverage containers at all events and implement strategies to minimize bottled water consumption, reducing waste and preserving valuable resources.
